Daphnis and Chloe

2010

Eight characters are “magically” transferred onstage, defectors of an odd reality. Without any obvious reason they find themselves captured inside a strange setting which, even though not surrounded by walls, has boundaries that are firm and specific.

Dorcon, Lycaenion, the three Nymphs, Syrinx, Bryaxis, Lammon, the Pirates and Pan are the characters performed by the eight dancers while all of them play in turns the two leading roles, Daphnis and Chloe. The innocent teenage couple, the symbol of absolute love that knows no boundaries and cannot be crashed by any natural or human power.

Ravel’s music invades the stage and inspires a powerful interpretation of Longus’ pastoral novel Daphnis and Chloe. The performance -full of controversies and dark humor- focuses on the wild awakening of sexuality and the desire for physical contact, bringing to life a long forgotten romantic world.
