Tell-Tale Heart

TRUE! – nervous – very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses – not destroyed – not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily – how calmly I can tell you the whole story. Edgar Allan Poe, The Tell-Tale Heart

A theatrical adaptation of Tell-Tale Heart, one of the most famous short stories by Edgar Allan Poe. In our site-specific version, the narrator and protagonist is a female character. After having committed a crime, she is now reflecting on what has really happened. Her narrative reveals the absolute logic that can paradoxically exist underneath a seemingly irrational act, opening a window to the dark side of human existence.

Manifactura Theatre Group was founded in May 2007 by Xenia Aidonopoulou and Olga Chatziiakovou, and its first production was the devised theatre piece Waiting Rooms at Teloglion Foundation of Art. Manifactura aims to create immersive, devised, site-specific work, presented in non-conventional theatre spaces. Tell-Tale Heart is its second production, presented as part of the annual visual arts festival Action Field Kodra.
